Our advanced timber framing class is designed with the more experienced woodworker in mind. Less time will be spent on the basics needed for beginner woodworkers and more time given to just finely crafting very detailed and useful Japanese joints!
This class is really geared for those wishing to improve their skill sets and build larger structures needing more intricate joinery that we really don’t have time to cover in the beginner class.
A list of what is covered is below;
Nuki scarf joint options
Several different and useful scarf joints to include;
Ari tsugi
Shiribasami tsugi
Daimochi tsugi
Spline joints
Joining irregular shaped timbers (octagonal, curved and round beams)
The week of joinery experiences will also be interspersed with in depth theory classes on all the little particulars of creating a timber frame house using these methods.
Students of this class will be expected to have some experience using hand tools and cutting basic wooden mortise and tenon joinery. No one needs to be an expert by any means, but basic use of hand saws, chisels, planes and hand augers is going to be needed to tackle these joints.
Classes are from Monday – Friday 8am-6pm
Each class is limited to 10 students
Course cost is $1300 paid at time of registration.
